But what about whole SEGMENTS? Enter the non-hybrid compact MPV.
We’ve got the Kia Rondo (Known to everybody outside Canada and Oceania as the Carens) to kick things off, which is also available Con Manuel if you so desire:
Then there’s the Mazda5, which was sold in the States, but it was discontinued. Still going strong in Canuckistan. Also available with three pedals.
Then there’s the B-Class, a car that’s basically an A-Class in a tall hat. This one stays clutchless in Canada. But really, is a manual transmission minivan that desirable? It’s not a FiST or an MX-5. It’s a minivan based off a small hatchback.
There are however three Hybrid/EV options. The Ford C-Max, the Prius V, and the aforementioned B-Class, but with an electric motor and an electric motor only.
And, here’s Top Gear testing two vehicles from the segment we just talked about. But neither of them were ever sold in Canada, or the States. (If we’re only counting the ICE-only C-Max)

The states doesn’t get the B-Class? Weird, I see them everywhere here

You guys also get the Micra that we don’t get. Cheap sub-10k cars is a segment, isn’t it? :p
And a base-model Civic DX for 16k. Strippo base models are kind of a segment, too, right?
We finally get the B-class, but only the electric version :(
I’d totally rock a B20 Turbo 6-speed manual! The stick 5 is awesome as fuck too.

You forgot to mention Mazda 5 is available with a 6spd manual in all 3 trims. The B-class makes 258lb-ft at 1600rpm.

We got the Rondo, just the ugly last-gen one.

Yep. And if I recall correctly basically nobody bought one and it was pulled after only about 2 years or so.

They only get the electric B-class, Canada gets the gas one.

Correct.

Hey, that last-gen Rondo looks so cool! Not to mention HUGE windows which are uncommon now.
The new one is better because of the manual option, but worse because you can’t get it down here anymore :o

My wife and I rented a Rondo for a week when visiting family in Nova Scotia and it was actually pretty solid; it’ll seat 6 in reasonable comfort (back row is a bit tight). The interior was pretty decent, it was super easy to park, good on gas BUT it was super slow; if they still sold one with a V6 or stuffed a 2.0T under the hood, I’d have given serious thought about buying one.

We can get away with stripped out base models, with our climate being cool for most of the year no-AC can fly. Fun fact: The Mazda Speed Miata’s shipped to Canada came with no AC, so the dealers had to install it. There is even an AC tax on new cars, it is $100 per AC unit.

THE B-KLASSE? I LOVE THE B-KLASSE! Then again it might have been a holiday romance, I fell in love in Germany and France, of course a 3 pedaled variant.

Is the CMax really not sold in the US? I cant even recall seeing them in Canukstan...

Only as a hybrid. Same as in Canada. I’ve seen like 3 ever.

We got the Rondo. And the A Class, just its electric and available in sedan and stupid small crossover form.

Strange....I mean it's not a huge loss for them, I don't hear anything especially compelling about them. I guess with Americas hate for hatchbacks it makes sense for them not to get it

I didn’t realize that the US didnt get these. but we dont get the SS

Bah, you don’t need a kickass manual V8 Aussie muscle sedan when you have Korean minivans!

I like that B class thing. Is it RWD?
![]() 05/27/2016 at 01:46 |

FWD or AWD if you so desire. It’s based off the CLA.

I saw one of those at an enterprise lot in NC last year with Ontario plates. Looked out of place for sure.

I saw one of those!
Can’t remember if it was actually in Denver or if it was in Detroit on the way back from Denver (pretty sure it was the former). I recognized it as an Orlando, but I couldn’t remember anything about it.

Meanwhile in Europe…
Citroën C3 Picasso.
Vauxhall Meriva VXR (sporty model).
Peugeot 1007, complete with sliding doors and swappable interior plastics.
And you thought our MPVs couldn’t get any smaller.
Subcompact MPVs.
